Reason #216: Louder Than Bombs

The_Smiths_-_Louder_Than_BombsReleased a few years after the epic and career defining odds ‘n’ sods compilation Hatful Of Hallow, Louder Than Bombs is 4 sides (vinyl) of brilliant B-Sides, BBC sessions and the odd album track. It’s amazing to think that the band felt Unlovable, Stretch Out And Wait, You Just Haven’t Earned It Yet Baby and Is It really So Strange unworthy of inclusion on an album. The singles here are likewise glorious chunks of pop: Shakespeare’s Sister, Panic, Ask, Shoplifters of the World Unite, and Sheila Take a Bow. Seriously, take those 9 songs and you’ve got an album that would rival The Queen Is Dead as their best.

Yes, if you own the self-titled debut, and Hatful Of Hallow there is some overlap, but the stuff that’s exclusive to this disc makes it more than worthwhile.
