The Creative Bloggers Award, Party Edition!
The Creative Blogger Award comes to me from Danica Piche and her wonderful site Living A Beautiful life, and since she nominated me I am forbidden to nominate her back, which is a drag because she really deserves it twice! One of the things Danica does better than anybody is sucking you into her world via the written world, immediately. And we go willfully, without hesitation, time and time again. Here’s a brief excerpt:
“The faint early morning light glows through the sheer curtains as I raise the blinds. I measure out the coffee. Press start. The little red light blinks on. Delightful. Padding out into the hallway in my soft furry socks, I open the window at the top of the stairs. The lace curtain billows and I pause to breathe in the fresh cold air.”
The rules for this award are:

I’m going to fudge this a bit because lately I haven’t the time to dig up many new favorite bloggers, so if I’ve fallen a bit short of the minimum of 15 please forgive me. I’ll catch up later.
1001 Albums In 10 Years: Everyone knows the book, right? In his own words, Mr 1001 outlines his goal “The (somewhat modest given the timeframe) challenge: 1001 albums in 10 years. Attempting to go through the original edition of the book by November 30, 2021.” Obviously it’s going to be an eclectic list, but that’s the fun part!
Surface Tension: I used to work with Thom at The Record Searchlight newspaper in Redding, California. I, a measly Advertising Manager, he an award winning outdoors feature writer. We bonded over music, naturally, and through his blog I discovered that he has a natural talent for creative writing, and outdoor photography as well. Go pay him a visit, but don’t ask me to spell his last name. It’s freakin’ impossible!!
Dispatches From The Away Dad Nation: Hal is a family friend and a helicopter pilot. He is also a musician, a helicopter pilot, father and a damn fine writer!
Kamer Tunes: I thought I had a decent size record collection, until I ran into this guy. His encyclopedic knowledge rock and roll is only surpassed by his writing ability. My only complaint is he should be quicker, so we can all get our “Rich Fix” sooner, and more often.
Mark My Words Mark is another fantastic writer, and what I love about his blog is that he introduces me to more nostalgic fare that escaped me growing up, like the joys of Frank Sinatra, and Dave Brubeck, and the lesser known gems of the intimidating discography of Miles Davis. He does all the heavy lifting, and I DIG that about him! Also, he shares my love for the music of Nick Lowe, Paul Weller and Roger Hitchcock!
Linear Tracking Lives Here’s a guy who is much more in tune with the (cool) kids these days than I. Currently counting down his favorite songs from the 1990’s, a decade that, musically speaking, changed my life.
Post Punk Monk: Go to this site now and you’d be forgiven for thinking it was an online fanzine to Simple Minds, but rest assured it’s much, much more than that. Currently he is at “PART 61” in his Simple Minds series, bt dig into past posts to find many fascinating missives on Kraftwerk, Yello, Ultravox, and about a thousand deserving band from the best decade for music…and beyond!
Still Married: Erin Friedman is a Shasta County musician and is on this list because I believe in her ability to touch people with not only her song writing abilities but also her storytelling sensibilities, which are off the chart good. The posts have slowed down somewhat of late, but there’s plenty of backstory to go through.
The Song In My Head Today: Ah, Holly, one of the first music blog friends I made from way back in 2007 when I first started. She is a marvelous writer, funny as hell and just as poignant, and as an added bonus the lady has really, really great taste in music!
The NEW Vinyl Villain: A music blog with a strong focus on UK bands of yesteryear, some obscure (to us Yanks and Canucks, anyway) and some we have all known and loved for decades.
JatStory: Ah yes, Mr 1537, and one of new best favorites! Out of all the blogs I visit on a regular basis his is the most irreverent. His musical tastes are almost as eclectic as mine, minus the unnatural and weird love of Supertramp and Alan Parsons that I am afflicted with. His album cover manipulation (I won’t spoil it for you!) is what initially caught my attention, but I stuck around because this fella is one hell of a good writer. Knowledgeable, too!
Last part is 5 facts about me? All right, then…
I collect comic books. Old comic books, from the 1950’s to the 1970’s exclusively.
My mother is Canadian, and I grew up in Eastern Canada, so I call my mom MUM and I really miss getting my milk in bags!
I am an Advertising Director for a chain of newspapers in Northern California, one hour from Lake Tahoe and about 2 hours from San Francisco.
I really, really, REALLY hate wearing ties.
I love lousy weather. Rain, snow, hail, anything with a wind chill factor attached to it actually, is A-OK in my book.

Ian, you deserve many blogging awards. I’ve always enjoyed your posts and I’m glad you’ve been recognized by Danica, another excellent blogger (and positive spirit). I appreciate your support of my blog and the fact that you included it here. I wish I had more time to participate & spread the love but I can barely scrape together one post a week. I always do my best to support my fellow bloggers in specific posts, and I like what Geoff at 1001albumsin10years will be doing according to his “You, You, You Oughta Know (These Blogs)” post. Highlighting others who inspire us on a daily basis is very important to me. As far as I can tell, none of us are in this for money or glory. It’s all about sharing our love for the subjects that are important to us. I already knew most of the bloggers you highlighted in this post, and I will check out the others very soon.

Thanks, Rich. The ‘participation’ angle wasn’t the important part, to tell the truth. I even felt a little uncomfortable asking folks. I used to do this before on my old blog, minus the “participation or die” angle, and still agree that the fact that the bloggers I link to deserve the attention and that negates the other. Thanks for acknowledging this. I hope your excellent blog gets a new eyeball or 2 from it.
