Reason #377 Why The ’80’s Didn’t Suck: The Dream Academy

the_dream_academy-the_dream_academyThese guys are here for 3 very good reasons: David Gilmour masterfully produced this little pop gem, and the songs Life In A Northern Town and The Edge Of Forever, the last one used at the end of Farris Beuler’s Day Off, you’ll remember, are two of the most memorable songs of the decade.

The rest of the songs are good, just not on a par with those 2. And Gilmour’s production doesn’t suffer from any of that 1980’s ‘sheen’ that ruined many a good song back then because, well, David Gilmour produced it! Oh, and the fact the band used primarily acoustic instruments helped a great deal!
