Reason #382 Why The ’80’s Didn’t Suck: Beat Crazy
Yet another terribly underrated Joe Jackson LP, whose legacy is to forever sit in the shadows of Look Sharp and Night and Day, not to mention the Elvis Costello albums that were released around this same time. But it is a terrific album, and the cover is one of the best of the decade. More reggae, but in this case it is more “powerpop with a hint of reggae”. The title song is my favorite, and sounds like nothing else in Jackson’s formidable repertoire. There were no official ‘hits’, but give this album time and it will creep up on you and become one of your favorites. It certainly doesn’t go down as easy as I’m The Man, or even Jumpin’ Jive, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. ..
