Reason #391 Why The ’80’s Didn’t Suck: Some Kinda Fun!
Just because Frankie Venom wore eyeliner, and the band only knew 3 chords, well that doesn’t mean Teenage Head were ever, really, technically, a ‘punk band’. Noe, even though the band name itself was a bit of a middle finger to prudes everywhere (actually named after a Flamin’ Groovies song), Teenage Head were always a really great pub/power pop band. With really, really, REALLY dumb l(but fun!) lyrics.
Teenage Beer Drinking Party, Shag Shack, Fist To Face and the great title track should be proof of their, um, lyrical disabilities? But the music, and Venom’s singing in particular, are all in fine form here, their third and last album really worth hunting down. As a matter of fact, even though the great and all knowing Allmusic slams it and gives it a paltry 2 stars, I’d say this is the place for the uninitiated to start. Their debut is their best, and I’m particular to the second, Frantic City, but Some Kinda Fun is more than worthy.
Oh, yes, and they’re Canadians. So…bonus points!
