Reason #392 Why The ’80’s Didn’t Suck: Freeze Frame
This album deserves to be on here for the brilliant cover art alone! J Geils were on a roll after the new wave/pub rock hybrid that was Love Stinks and this album skyrocketed them into the pop stratosphere thanks to some fantastic pop singles and videos that were played ad naseum during 1981/1982.
The title track with its circus organ riff, Centerfold and the all pervasive ‘nanananana”s, the pub rock blast of Rage In The Cage and Piss On The Wall, and even the ballad Angel In Blue are all main reasons why this album sold, like, a kajillion copies. Back then the J Geils Band were out Stonsing the Rolling Stones, but this is the last album where that was the case. 1984’s terrible You’re Gettin’ Even While I’m Gettin’ Odd was the last album and a sad way to go out.
