Reason #430 Why The ’80’s Didn’t Suck: Tones On Tail
The band after Bauhaus and the band before Love & Rockets, Tones On Tail was comprised of Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins (and some other guy, apparently). The gateway song for me was GO! A ridiculously fuzzy bass and a pounding drum beat and a chorus of yahyahyahyahyahyahyahyahyahyah’s, GO! sounded like a goth version of the Violent Femmes. And I absolutely loved it and subsequently bought the parent album, which was basically a collection of the band’s EP’s. Songs like War and Lions and Christian Says and Happiness, in hindsight, were the baby steps that lead to Ash and Haskin’s next, more commercially successful, project Love & Rockets.
